If you think you know enough about the consequences of using a firearm to defend yourself, think again. Better yet, buy this book (which is now cheaper than a box of premium ammo but just as important). The truth of the matter is that while you think the law is on your side, it's a crap shoot, especially since there aren't enough legitimate self-defense cases out there in a given locality to provide enough work for attorney's to build a practice on and thus, they are woefully unprepared to save you from the crushing gears of justice which will look at you, not knowing if you're the good guy or the bad guy, all they'll have is the evidence, not what you say but the evidence, because any warm body can say "I'm innocent" in fact they hear it all the time. Many people get off easy because the police rely on hunches, which they relay to the prosecutor, but do you want to bet your life on a hunch? On anyone's instinct? Especially someone who doesn't know you from Adam? Andrew Branca takes his readers through many different scenarios based on his experience going through cases from across the country, throughout decades, he knows case law, not just the barebones legislation that doesn't tell the whole story. So if you find yourself in that position that no lawful gun owner wants to find themselves in, where they actually are forced to pull the trigger to save their life of that of someone they love, you will have a resource to educate your attorney to give you the best defense possible, based on objective, unflinching principles of law, not instincts or the emotional ammunition that a prosecutor will try to use to sway a jury. You arm yourself to be ready for any attacker, arm yourself to be ready for the one that's inevitable to follow.Product details

The Law of Self Defense The Indispensable Guide to the Armed Citizen Andrew F Branca 9780988867703 Books Reviews
A must read for every person who CCW or has a weapon in their home (castle). Plain talk average citizen can understand and relate to. Debunks myths. Throughout the book, every State is related to. Defines and explains self defense in numerous scenarios. Real life cases presented to validate concepts and importantly how Courts apply the law.
I graduated with a degree in criminal justice, so there was a lot of review and information I already know throughout the book. For this book, I actually appreciated that because it was much easier to understand and apply the laws of self-defense to the law and case law I already know. Great book!!
Recommend for everyone's outlook. Rethink the relationship between an individual and the state, responsibilities you desire between you and fellow citizens. Make State and Federal comparisons to what you find yourself for local considerations. Highly educational to public attitudes in an armed society.
Evident that geography fuels sectarian views. If you don't readily have enough interest in law, this is great encouragement for law studies. Hard to
think of more drama than this.
Best book on the topic area. His live seminars are very good also. An essential read for CCW holders, and anyone that thinks they'll ever use a firearm in self defense. Written by a practicing lawyer who consults on civilian self defense cases throughout the USA.
This is a great book. There were many things I didn't know that now I do. Reading this book made me realize that I also need to carry "less than lethal" protection in addition to my firearm. I ordered some Fox Labs pepper spray for that purpose.
There are some scary stories in this book of what over zealous anti-gun prosecutors have done, or attempted to do (but were stopped by sane jurors), to innocent Americans.
I found this book to be very informative for anyone to know what the laws are concerning self defense. It is especially good to have a sense of how different prosecutors approach situations of defense in different states, and what a person might expect as a result of using lethal force to protect oneself or their family. To not know this information could get a person in trouble without realizing it. The only reason I gave 4 stars is there are grammar errors in the document that should have been caught by editing or proofreading.
Well written, must read for anyone who carries a pistol. I've read and researched extensively self defense laws, including writings by Massad Ayoob and this is an excellent source of information with case laws to support and illustrate the concepts you need to know before you ever strap on a pistol. This is *not* a get out of jail strategy if you are in the wrong. I must stress this, the book makes sure that you understand that you never use a gun unless you feel you are truly in fear for your life and you have exhausted all reasonable recourse. It even tells you to be careful being a "good Samaritan" coming to someone else's rescue as you may inadvertently be helping a criminal rather than an innocent in which case you can be guilty of murder rather than self defense of an innocent. A must read.
